Where is Gamla Stan?

Gamla Stan is an island in the middle of Stockholm City and is easily accessible by all modes of transport. map >>

How Do We Get There?
By foot:
From Kungsträdgården walk over the bridge and you are in Gamla Stan. Walk straight ahead along Skeppsbron with the castle on your right hand side and water on your left until you are just past the castle, then turn right up the road (Slottsbacken) with the
Castle on your right hand side and continue straight ahead to the Obelisk.

By Tunnelbana: (Underground train)
The Underground, Metro or Subway is called Tunnelbana in Swedish. Look for the big T signs. Both the red and green lines stop at the Gamla Stan station.

By Bus:
Bus numbers 43, 2, 55 and 76. Alight at Slottsbacken (in front of the castle)
Bus numbers 3 and 53. Alight at Riddarhustorget (in front of the House of Nobility or Knights building as it sometimes called).

Where do the Tours depart and finish?
The tours depart from the Obelisk, beside the Royal Castle, Slottsbacken, the Old Town (Gamla Stan).

What do I wear?
General sight-seeing wear is perfect. We suggest wearing clothes that are comfortable
for you to walk in, including comfortable shoes. Stiletto shoes should probably be avoided as its easy to sink into the cracks between the cobble stones!

To get maximum enjoyment out of the tour please pack weather gear appropriate to the day e.g. umbrella/raincoat or hat/sunscreen.

What happens in bad weather?
There is a Swedish expression “There is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothes.”

Our walking tours operate as scheduled – rain, hail, shine or even snow!

Do I need to be fit?
All fitness levels are welcome and will thoroughly enjoy the walking tours. If you are concerned about the tour please speak to your tour guide prior to the start of your
walking tour.

Would the tour be suitable for wheelchairs/prams?
Yes definitely. The route can be slightly modified for wheelchairs and prams.

What language are the tours conducted in?

The tours are conducted in English, but interpreters accompanying non-English speaking visitors are welcome to join the tour to translate.
